Andrew Jacobson's research in aqueous geochemistry and isotope geochemistry has implications for emerging decarbonization strategies designed to mitigate anthropogenic climate change, including enhanced rock weathering, ocean alkalinity enhancement, and carbon mineralization in basalt at elevated temperatures. Funded by a $5M Negative Carbon Shot award from the Department of Energy, current focus is on investigating enhanced rock weathering in central Illinois. Moreover, several Ph.D.. graduate students from the Jacobson lab have taken lead roles in the burgeoning climate-tech sector.
