Surveying damage from the 2004 Sumatra tsunami on the Southern shore of the
Island of Socotra, Yemen.

MUHFARHN, Socotra, 14 October 2006
The tsunami was particularly strong on the Eastern part of the island, with maximum
run-up of 5.5 m.
At Qalansia, on the Western coast, a 7-yr. old boy drowned while swimming at the beach.
Here, we show a boat moved inland by the tsunami and deposited 224 m from the shore line,
at
an altitude of 3.4 m.
